- Guru Marpa's Oral Instructions to Milarepa
(composed by Lotsawa Marpa, chanted by H.H the 17th GYALWANG KARMAPA)
The gratest refuge is the Buddha
The best companion if faith
The worst demon is descursive thoughts
The most serious crim is slandr
The biggest obstracle to the dharma path is jealousy
Do not engage in meningless talk and act
If you do not confess according to the four forcs
You will wander endlessly in samsara
If you do not accumulate merits
The bilss of liberation cannot be gained
If you do not cut through the ten defilements
For sure ou will suffer the pains of the lower realms
If you do not practice emptiness and compassion
Ultimate realization cannot be attained
If you wish to attain buddhahood in this life time
You must without distraction observe our midn
To understand the essence of Tantra
You must diligently practice the skillful means of the Vajrayana
If you pursue the comforts of material goods and servants
You will surely become the devi's followers
If you brag about yourself and slander others
You will surely fall into the fathoms of horrifying danger
If you cannot tame this wild midn of yours
What use are teachings and oral instruction?
The purity of the motiation is most important
It is truly remarkable to realize unborn emptioness
The practice of tantric insight is most profound
So you should practice prana yoga
Primordial wisdom must e forcefully sought
Great gurns must be persistently relied on
The unborn mind must be thoroughly investigated
Life easily fades, do not idle away your timej
Do not pursue the brief pleasured of samsara
Sufferings also have thier benificial side!
Clarity of the mind is the attainment of buddhahood
What good cn worldly knowledge have?
Thousands of dharam treachers have gathered for discussion
Nothing can exceed this method
Therefore you shold practice in earnest accordingly.
- Short mandala Offering
( chanted by H. H the 17th GYALWANG KARMAPA and lamas)
This foundation of earth, strewn with flower and purified with scented water,
Adorned by Mt. Meru,
The four continets, the sund and moon,
Visualized as a pure realm,
if offered to the assembly of Buddhas.
May all beings be reborn in that perfectly pure realm!
