Potala Palace sells tickets to tourists directly

Friday, November 21, 2008

The Potala Palace in Lhasa, capital of the Tibet Autonomous Region, has begun selling tickets directly to tourists without allowing group bookings since November 18, sources from Lhasa Evening.

Since November 18, tourists needn't book tickets ahead of time and they can buy tickets after security check at the ticket office, which is located at the mountainside of the Potala Palace. The ticket office keeps open from 9 am to 3 pm. The new act has received appreciation from tourists.

After the operation of the Qinghai-Tibet Railway, limitation measures had been taken in the Potala Palace in order to protect it as more tourists visited the palace. At that time, Potala Palace only sold 2,300 tickets every day and tourists need to book tickets ahead of time.
