Sichuan to Tibet Southern Route
The southern route is shorter than the northern rute and passes equally stunning scenery. If offers fewwer monasteries but includes the fabulous Natural scenery en route.
. Kangding
Kangding is where mountains and clouds make friends and play together. It is home to love songs, such as the following: "At the place where I can see you, My eyes are glued on yours. At the place where I cannot see you, My heart is linked with yours."
The Tibetan inhabited area of Sichuan Province is the northern route of the ancient Tea Horse Path, and the Kangding city was a very influential trade post in ancient China. It used to be the most important market of Tea-horse trade in the past .The nomadic Tibetan came here to exchange their animals or animal products with Chinese Han people trading tea.
. Xinduqiao
Xinduqiao, in the Sichuan-Tibet Highway, the North-South road forks, is a picturesque paradise. There are magical light, the vast grassland, creek and curved Yang golden, rolling hills, scattered Cangqian the meantime, the cattle and sheep grazing peacefully in the West Sichuan Plain¡¡ beautiful scenery and blooming. Xinduqiao, is a fascinating "Lights and Shadows of the World" by the people as "photographer's paradise." Xinduqiao scenery Russian town called East is the Sichuan-Tibet south and north of the junction points. . Litang
Litang, is in Sichuan Province in south-west China and has a population of about 50,000. It is also part of the ancient Tibetan province of Kham. The town is a major center of Tibetan culture in Kham and at an elevation of 4100 meters, one of the highest in the world. Litang is a bustling little town with colorful street life thanks to the nomadic shepherds and Tibetan people coming to sell and buy their products. The older parts are situated on the hill slopes to the east, while busy construction works are extending the place into the surrounding grassy plains.
. Ganden Thubchen Choekhorling Monastery
The monastery is just on the northern edge of town and belongs to the yellow-hat-sect of Tibetan Buddhists. As usual, you are not allowed to take photographs of holy relics inside. The friendly monks will guide you through the main buildings, including some breathtaking views from the temple roofs. The monastery was founded in 1580 by the third Dalai Lama Sonam Gyatso on the site of an older B?n-monastery. There are three main temples in the compound, of which one is currently under construction. The oldest seems to be the one on top of the hill, still featuring the wooden construction of the upper rim of the buildings. Inside, you can view several chambers and a bedroom in which the 7th Dalai Lama is said to have resided. Many more famous and influential personal figures were born here, including the 7th Dalai Lama, 10th Dalai Lama, the most influential Zebutsundaba Lama of Mogonia, the 7th Gyamuyang Lama, the 7th, 8th and 9th Pabalha living Buddha of Chamdo monastery and the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Xianggen living buddha. . Horse Racing Festival
Every year on August 1, a 10 days horse racing festival takes place in Litang. Accommodation can get scarce during that time. The Tibetans will come from far away and set tents to wait for the big days very early. After the wonderful ceremony with traditional Tibetan dancing and songs, the most exciting event is the horse races. The brave riders will take their pretty decorated horses to participate the races and showcase their excellent horse riding skills, such as picking up the scarlet on the back of a fast running horse, shooting at targets while on the gallop, etc. The women are all in their most beautiful best with magnificent jewelry as they shower their applauses on their heroes. The festival is also a good time for trade.
. Batang
Batang is 32km from the Tibetan and Sichuan Border. Chorde Ganden Pendeling Monastery in the sothwest of town is well worth a visit. There is over 500 monks are freindly and active. There are three chapels behind the main hall up some stairs via a separate entrance is a room for the Panchen Lama, lined with photos of exiled local llamas. A kora of prayer wheels surrounds the monastery.
. Mangkang
The road condition before getting Mandkang is not bad. The Lancang River flows along the road, adding to the excitement. Climbing over the entrance of Hongla Mountain, travelers enter the protection area of the golden monkeys. After going down the mountain and walking along the Mangkang river, travelers can get to Mangkang county which is the first county after entering the Tibetan area. The altitude here is 3780meters. Jinsha River, Lancang River and Nujiang River form a particular view here. We have called it ¡®Two Cliffs Hold Three Rivers¡¯. There is a way to Batang, Sichuan province in west Mangkang. This place must be called the throat of Tibet.
. Pomi
Formerly called Tramo, this small county capital has well stocked shops and several hotels and restaurants, making it a logical place to spend a night. While the town itsefl is an eyesore, the surrounding scenery is stupendous and there is plenty of scope for exploring the nearby valleys.
. Tongmai
Tongmai Natural Barrier begins Tongmai and ends Dongjiu. It is the most difficult road in Dian-Zang way. The whole distance is 24km. however; wilderness lovers can feel the excitement here.
. Laigu Glacier
Laigu Glacier located by Tibet Changdu Prefecture and Rawok area. It's close by Rawoktso.
Laigu Glacier include Meiya, Yalong, Ruojiao, Donga, Xiongjia, Cow-horse Glaciers. The most spectacular one is Yalong Glacier. It's 12 kilometers long, from the post of Gabu mountain peak elevation of 6,606 meters above sea level, 4km extended to the gang on Gabu Lake.
. Rawoktso (2600)
Rawok with its military presence and transient population of trucker and loggers has all the elements of a frontier outpost, without the charm. The old town is worth a look.The surrounding fields are full of wooden platforms fro drying barley. It¡¯s worth heading north of town and taking a side road southeast for around 7km to Rawoktso. The views here are excellent and i's a great place for a picnic.
. Midui Glacier
The Yupu town Midui glacier glacier is from 103 kilometers of county 8 kilometers from national road 318. This glacier is glittering throughout the year. the scenery is magical and pleasant. It is said that it is the minimum glacier above sea level in the world .
. Lulang Forest Sea

. Nyingtri(3000m)
Nyingtri, is the old country capital. Nowadays, it is a small town on the east bank of Nyang-chu, below Mt Bonri. Mountain, forest and lake spirits pray role in people¡¯s lives. Nyingtri landscape is magnificent, it is characterized by dense primeval forest, plateau lakes, high mountains and deep fertile valleys.
The road into Nyingtri passes through Takste township. Just above the town is this monastery. There is a Takste Yungdrungling Bon Monastery.
At Kushhuk Drong, there is a 2000 years old juniper tree, sacred to bon.
Bayi, capital of Nyingtri district, was originally a military base. Not much to see here.
Bahe, the intersection town of Draksumtso.
. Niyang River
Niyang River is located north of the largest tributaries of the Brahmaputra. It originated from the west side of the fault of Meulaboh Timber Beam, pulled from the west to the east. It vicinity of the Brahmuaputra Rivern in Nyingchi Prefecture. Niyang River it's 307.5km long, divide 2,273 meters, with an average gradient of 7.39%. Its source for the role of the ancient glaciers Wai Valley about 5,000 m above sea level.
. Draksum-tso
This beautiful alpine lake is 500km one way from Lhasa. Apart from the sheer beauty of the lake and its surrounding 6000m peaks, ths site has strong connections to Gesar of Ling the semi mythical ruler of eastern Tibet and Guru Ringpoche the Indian sage, both of whom are said to have resided at the lake. Many pilgrimage sites are connected to the two.
The highlight of the lake is the charming Tsodzong Monastery( Tsomum Monastery), a small Nyingmapa chapel sited on a photogenic island is an organic fusion of dozens of types of flora and sprinkle of holy sights. The ferry across the narrow straight is a plank raft that you navigate by pulling on a cable; there is usually someone around to help you across.
The monastery was founded by Sangye Lingpa in the 14th century and is now home to three Nyingmapa nuns. The main monastery building has statues of a wrathful and artery building has statues of a wrathful and peaceful Guru Ringpoche and smaller statues of Sakayamuni, Chenresig and Kongtsun Demo, a local protector. The monastery entrance is flanked by ancient looking male and female fertility symbols.
