Close to Yuantong Si is the zoo. The grounds are pleasantly leafy and high up, and provide a bird's-eye vista of the city, but most travelers find the animal's living conditions depressing.

A short distance south-west of the zoo, Cuihu Gongyuan is good for a stroll. Sunday sees the park at its liveliest, when it is host to an English Corner, colorful paddleboats and hordes of families at play.
